Mukhrani Church
Juan, Ayanna and I went to the church of one of my English students. Maxo graduated from the Bible school two years ago and has been pastoring this church for 4 years.
It is so funny sometimes how things turn out because of miscommunication when you are trying to speak broken Georgian/English. Maxo asked me if it was ok if we took a minibus there. I said no problem! So we arrive at the building Sunday ready to go and come to find out he was asking if they could rent the passenger van – not take public transportation! Thankfully it wasn’t being used, so with a few phone calls made we were on our way…
Juan and I had thought we were just going to visit the church – Maxo didn’t ask us to preach and hadn’t said anything about an interpreter - but after being here a year we should have known better! Maxo had arranged for someone to come to interpret for us – but both Juan and I forgot our Bibles and we hadn’t prepared anything. We decided to go just go with the moment and share what God put on our hearts.
The village of Mukhrani is about 30 minutes outside of Tbilisi and it is a big village. Maxo drives a small Lada (an old Russian car) and usually takes one car load of people to the church and comes back to pick up the rest. The church is on the far end of the village and it is far for people to walk…most of them being older ladies. We came upon this small house that they use for their church and were ushered into the main bedroom. It looked like there was a kitchen, this main bedroom and then another bedroom made from the closed in porch.
25 people were crowded into this little room – ready to worship the Lord. The Mother church in Tbilisi has started a Leadership Training Program for their Young Adults. They have been attending classes every Monday since December and have recently been assigned an area/region where there is currently no youth ministry going on. It is exciting to see and hear how these young adults are being used. One young man, Beso, was there with us yesterday. He comes to Mukhrani, from Tbilisi, every week on Thursdays and does the youth meeting and he attends church with them on Sundays also. There is also another young girl from Tbilisi that comes to do children’s ministry.
It really blessed me to see so much ministry going on in this place. The house is located on historical ground so there were fields of green grass and lots of trees all around. You could see the snow capped mountains off in the distance and not far from the house there are ruins of a King’s home that dates back to the 18th century. I am sorry now that we didn’t take any pictures….it really is a beautiful place! Hope to go again and share some pictures. :)
